ARUKA WIRED

In this video, Coach Johnston breaks down what the purpose of Aruka Wired is and how it can help you improve your athletic performance.

What is Aruka Wired?

Aruka Wired is our unique approach to Physical Fitness and Athletic Performance.  Since we are all bioelectric beings, exercise and athletic training at its root should be about improving our wiring – or our nervous system.  It is really a simple concept.  Our internal software (nervous system) dictates what the hardware (body) displays.  The more efficient our software becomes the better our bodies can display good performance.  Therefore, the goal of Wired is to improve your movement efficiency, or what we call your Movement IQ.

“The end goal of all forms of exercise should be to restore, gain, and enhance our Movement IQ – which is the manifestation of good wiring.”

What is the focus of the Wired Program?

In addition to the movement factors that contribute to Movement IQ development, our focus includes the athlete’s lifestyle practices such as rest and nutritional habits.  We assist in building the athlete’s movement IQ by utilizing the 9 different types of exercises that Coach Johnston highlights in the newly released book Aruka. The specific combination of exercises used is unique to each individual and based on the following factors.

  • Age

  • Injury

  • Health history

  • Initial Evaluation

  • Activity Level/Movement Bank - the size of one’s stored movement experience.

  • Level of Development of other motor abilities - ROM, strength, speed, etc.

What is an Athlete’s Movement Bank?

One of our primary goals is to expand the movement bank of athletes.  Expanding your movement bank is one of the often-neglected keys to improving athleticism.  An individual’s movement bank is literally the number of stored movement and motor skills that are a part of the athlete’s persona.  Movement is a form of intelligence, and the larger the number of movements that one can perform with efficiency, the greater the degree of Movement IQ. Growing your movement skill patterns is literally akin to depositing more money in your bank account.  The more you deposit the wealthier you become.

Is Wired a stand-alone program or can it be grafted into my existing performance program?

While we sometimes recommend that our Wired program be used as a stand-alone, it was developed to be utilized as an addition to existing programs as well.  We understand the need for individuals and teams to often train together in order to meet the demand of time restrictions or differences in training philosophies.  Wired therefore does not have to replace existing training programs but can be grafted into individual or team programs.

Why should Aruka Wired be considered as a component of my existing program?

The answer to this question varies based on the use of components of the program currently being used.  One example would be a program that is primarily only focused on strength or weight training. To avoid rigidity and the loss of movement efficiency, the compressive nature of lifting weights must be balanced with various other components that drive global movement patterns. In addition, certain restoration procedures for decompression are needed to balance the compressive nature of the program.
